GRAYS SHOPPING CENTRE COMMUNITY PLANNING WEEKEND

Fri 28th February to Tue 3rd March 2020

Grays Shopping Centre Community Planning Weekend:

Friday 28 & Saturday 29 February 2020

NewRiver invites the community to share their

vision for future Grays town centre

NewRiver, owner of Grays Shopping Centre, is delighted to invite the local community to join them over a period of two-days for a drop-in community planning weekend hosted by JTP to share views on what a future Grays Town Centre might look like.

The workshop forms part of NewRiver’s future vision, working alongside Thurrock Borough Council, to begin to formulate plans to redevelop the existing Grays Shopping Centre to create a thriving community destination with a mix of uses that will be attractive and relevant for the long-term.

DATE: Friday 28 and Saturday 29 February 2020

TIME: 13.45 – 17.30 on Friday and 11.00 – 16.00 on Saturday

LOCATION: A vacant unit within Grays Shopping Centre, details to follow, hosted by NewRiver and JTP Architects

The local community and users of Grays town centre have the opportunity to share their visions for the uses and services they would like to see in the town centre of the future to help shape potential future plans. Ideas can be broad, imaginative and wide-ranging, including new leisure offerings, community services, new homes or new retail.

NewRiver’s long-term vision for the centre would complement Thurrock Borough Council’s own exciting regeneration and investment plans for Grays Town Centre, collectively revitalising the space into a vibrant community hub for locals to eat, work and enjoy their down time.

Members of the NewRiver project team, including JTP, an award-winning international placemaking practice of architects and masterplanners, will be available on both days and a series of interactive workshops will be undertaken. NewRiver encourages the local community to take part in these sessions.

Following the public workshop days, the NewRiver project team will analyse and summarise the outcomes and draw up an emerging vision for Grays Shopping Centre for what a redeveloped town centre might look like, and what uses it may include.

This will be presented back to the local community on Tuesday 3 March at Thameside Theatre from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. NewRiver will then come back to the community later in the year to share proposals once they have been developed in more detail.
